At the 2017 Wimbledon Championships, Murray won the Mixed
Doubles title alongside Martina Hingis without losing a set. This was Jamie's
fourth major overall.
Murray was in the Great Britain team that won the Davis Cup
in 2015, the nation's first success in the tournament for 79 years. With his
brother Andy, he won the doubles matches in Britain's quarter-final, semi-final
and final victories. The Davis Cup team was awarded the 2015 BBC Sports
Personality Team of the Year Award.
In the 2017 Australian Open, Murray and partner Bruno Soares
lost in the first round to Americans Sam Querry and Donald Young. In June,
Murray and Soares reached the quarterfinals of the men's doubles but lost in
three sets against Santiago González and Donald Young.
Martina Hingis is a Czechoslovak-born Swiss professional
tennis player who is currently ranked world No. 3 in doubles by the WTA. She
has spent a total of 209 weeks as the singles world No. 1 and has won five
Grand Slam singles titles, twelve Grand Slam women's doubles titles, winning a
calendar-year doubles Grand Slam in 1998, and six Grand Slam mixed doubles titles;
for a combined total of twenty-three major titles. In addition, she has won the
season-ending WTA Championships two times in singles and three times in
doubles, and an Olympic silver medal.
At Wimbledon, Hingis and Jamie Murray won their semifinal match
against Marcelo Demoliner and María José Martinez Sanchez to reach the mixed
doubles final. There, they defeated defending champions Heather Watson and
Henri Kontinen 6-4, 6-4.
The victory of Murray and Hingis was a sweet victory and
deserved in 74 minutes. Jamie Murray has said that Hingis is a great player.
Hingis completely complements Murray's style.
