About hip-hop’s history in America.
Hip hop music, also called hip-hop or rap music. It was a
musical genre developed in the United States by urban African-Americans in the
1970s that included a stylized rhythmical beat that often accompanies rap, a
rhythmic and rhyming rhyme.
The term hip hop is sometimes used synonymously with rap
music, although rapping is not a requirement for hip hop; This genre can also
incorporate other elements of hip hop culture, including DJing, turntablism,
scratching, beatboxing and instrumentation.
It developed as part of hip hop culture, a subculture
defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching with
turntables, break dancing, and graffiti writing.
In the 1990s, hip hop became more diversified with other
styles in emerging regions, such as rap in the south and hip-hop in Atlanta. On
the other hand, hip hop continues to be integrated into other popular genres,
such as Neo soul and nu metal. So hip hop became the best-selling pop genre in
the mid-1990s and it was also the top-selling music genre in 1999. The hype of
hip-hop was more widespread and passionate among young people.
The popularity of hip hop music continues through the 2000s,
with the effects of hip hop being increasingly sought-after for mainstream pop.
The United States also witnessed the success of regional styles such as crunk,
a Southern genre, emphasizing rhythm and more music lyrics.
Beginning in 2005, hip hop sales in the United States have
dropped dramatically.
In late 2010, many hip-hop artists announced their comeback
to perform, including Eric B. Rakim, Pete Rock & CL Smooth and A Tribe
Called Quest with their latest album. We Got It From Here ... Thank You 4 Your
